The Most Photographic Spots in Oklahoma City
1. St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral
I happened upon this deliciously, sneaky spot while driving through one day. There is so much to love about this location. The church’s courtyard reminded me of a secret garden.

2. Oklahoma City University School of Law
OCU’s Law School sits right next door. Its tall pillars and granite steps provide beautiful leading lines and backdrops. Connected alleyways held endless photo opp possibilities with ample perspectives. So many cool architectural pieces everywhere!

3. Myriad Gardens
The Myriad Botanical Gardens display grassy, shaded picnic spots, beautiful walkways, and a picturesque pond (often donning happy ducks). Prepare to walk into a lush jungle when entering its glass conservatory. Kids can play at the Thunder Fountain and dogs can socialize at the dog park on the opposite side of the park. Check out more about that here. Each well-maintained spot is perfect for photos!

4. Automobile Alley
Sidewalks full of bustling businesses present backdrops with bright, bold color. The streets are filled with interesting lines, pops of vegetation, and so many walls that you can use to your advantage.

5. Katiebug’s Sips & Sweets
Besides being a perfect rest spot for sipping on something sweet, Katiebug’s has an adorable patio. I love to begin a session across the street and incorporate the red, gray, and multi-colored walls. Utilize the ivy wall along the railroad if you’re out hunting in the warmer months. You can stay right here and find so many great spots to use for hours.

6. Will Rogers Park
Looking for a great mix of landscaped gardens and wide-open spaces? This spot has both, as well as a greenhouse and a small pond to boot. I start on one end of the park and work my way around. There is a large variety of terrain to change up your setting. Your loved ones won’t believe all of your images came from the same place!

7. Sutton Wilderness Trail Park in Norman
When I’m in the mood to capture natural, woodsy, whimsical images, I set my eyes on Sutton Wilderness (sometimes called Urban Wilderness). The 5-acre park has a large fishing pond and miles of trails for roaming. I love that its fields are left in their natural form, giving it a very rustic look. Its foliage is ever-changing as each unique season passes. Of all of my top best places to take pictures in OKC, I love natural, woodsy locations best!

8. Alley by Abuelos
These windows just make the absolute perfect frame for your subject. The tree leaves and ivy provide interesting texture as well. It changes with the seasons, so always check the location out before planning on using it for a session.

9. Bricktown
Bricktown’s streets and venues hold so much photo potential! However, my favorite spots tend to be along the riverwalk. Take a walk at different times of the day to determine what spots look best in various light. So many hole-in-the-wall treasures are lurking at every turn. I find something new that I love each time I visit!

10. Downtown Norman
Alleys, brick walls, staircases galore… downtown Norman provides so many cool locations. Look for symmetry and leading lines along the buildings. Search out rich tones that provide even backdrops (steer clear of colors that reflect, such as bright yellow or green). Also, check out public areas behind restaurants. You never know what epic spot you might stumble upon.

11. Agape House Berry Farm
Besides being a fabulous location for picking berries, Agape House Berry Farm is a beautiful backdrop for candid shots. Snap away while your kiddos hunt for ripe berries. Rows of blackberry vines create marvelous leading lines, as do the blueberry bushes pictured below.
Check them out when you’re looking for a fun family activity and be sure to bring your camera along. Their rustic barn and lush landscape present beautiful backdrops amidst lots of family fun!

12. Kitchen Lake
Talk about a hidden gem. This lake isn’t large and has few walking trails, but use the light and its natural landscape to your advantage. It’s spectacular. On a side note, bring your fishing poles along if you or your kids love to fish. There are picnic tables and a great dock on the west side.

13. OU campus
Well-maintained and landscaped, OU’s campus provides varying opportunities for photos. Spring and fall are especially lovely. Incorporate the fountain, gardens, or weeping willows. Sometimes you can find a wall filled with rich, green ivy. There are so many fantastic buildings with plenty of interesting leading lines. Be sure to check it out at golden hour.

14. Skydance Bridge
Talk about cool architectural backdrops. The Skydance Bridge in Oklahoma City is one of the most popular attractions for tourists and locals alike.
The bridge was inspired by Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher. Built to help commemorate America’s bicentennial, it stands as a monument that connects two parts of our city together: South Side OKC with Northside. The sky-high pedestrian walkway curves beautifully over Interstate 40 which sits below at ground level–a beautiful reminder that we may not be able to see these things from different perspectives if they aren’t right before us on this very earth!

15. Personal Space
One of my very personal favorites is some private property I have access to in the OKC area. It lets me serve clients with an uncrowded, woodsy background. Maybe you have a spot that is special to you and your family. Let me know! I love using clients’ favorite locations!
