Beginnings in Photography
I began this photography journey professionally a little over 6 years ago now, but my love for photography is almost as old as I am. My parents gifted me a pink and purple 110 Kodak camera at the young age of 8. Yes, that certainly dates me. I was hooked early on and forever altered by a fascination with all things involving film and sharing stories.
It served at least three purposes:
- I became ultra-organized, stemming from labeling and sorting my pictures in albums.
- It served as a tool as I documented every bit of life in my household. It seems nothing was left out. I captured everything from my favorite rocks on family vacations to displays of our Cabbage Patch dolls, all set up for tea. I have dozens of stories, all shared through images.
- It fueled a creative outlet I was only beginning to discover.
My dad, with his artistic eye and film experience helped set the stage for my “photograph everything” addiction. I have albums full of all of those shots. Still!
Growth in My Journey
Fast forward several years. As luck would have it, I had some very influential photographer friends that I absolutely adored. They inspired me to begin my photography education. I’ve spent the past 6 years growing my business and crafting my art. Life, as it often does, gets rather busy. I’m also a mom + teacher + wife + chicken farmer + writer. I could go on with more descriptions, but you get the idea. After a 5 year hiatus from blogging and now transferring and rebuilding my website, I’m eager to put the pen to the paper, so to speak. So I’m asking myself now – why post here publicly?
I have a lot to share. I have a passion for helping people learn and grow. Writing + photography is a magical way to accomplish that. Aiding others in sharing their stories feeds my soul.
Find Your Voice & Share Your Story
I grew up relishing every photo and piece of literature I could get my hands on. Stories have been a lifelong love of mine. It has become evident to me over the years how powerful emotive images are in conveying messages. I’m driven by finding unique, seemingly small details and helping people to portray their personal stories in visual and everlasting ways. It encompasses my photography journey.
Connections give birth to some of the deepest meaning there is. If I can capture any of it from behind my lens or help others learn to do so well, I’m one lucky gal to get to play even a tiny role in that. I want to help in sharing your story.
